OUR HIPPIE HOME

INSIDE OUR HIPPIE HOME

Like everyone on this planet, we are works in progress. I may have always been an undercover hippie with a strong sense of idealism, but as we all know it’s not quite as easy to put this idealism in place and follow a lifestyle that feels completely in line with our integrity and moralistic views in a world that is so determined to go the opposite way. Below I share some simple changes everyone can make in their homes and lives to live a simpler more aligned existence.

Firstly, the pic above is not of our home, it is a restaurant in Canggu in Bali where we spent some time last year. Our actual home is not our ideal with solar panels and tank water, it is a lovely older townhouse near our favourite beach. I point this out because although rich, our lives don’t necessarily look ‘Insta-worthy’, or exactly as we like to imagine. For me, for the most part, I never had to really try to connect to the elements of nature and what would serve Gaia’s growth and our continued lives here, and what would hinder it. I easily adopted the basics of cruelty free and environmentally acceptable (is that even a thing?) living. We can all do better, and sometimes change feels as though it is out of our hands. But below are some tips on where to start. . . today!

No. . .
  • Single use plastics
  • Plastic straws
  • Takeaway coffee cups
  • Plastic toothbrushes, hairbrushes, single use razors
  • Plastic toys
  • Regular nappies
  • Cling wrap
  • Regular trash bags
  • Plastic fruit and vegetable bags
  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Products containing Palm Oil

Recycle ♻️ absolutely everything you can. Here in Australia that is almost ALL types of packaging now. Or even better upcycle!

More. . .
Wherever you can, make the switch to
Ethical clothing and shoes brands. Or even better hit some Op shops or thrift stores.
Conscious Consumerism and mindfulness need to be at the forefront of our minds always. What do we actually need for a happy and abundant existence? For me mostly secondhand furniture lots of books and artwork make me happy. Artisan and market items are my favourite and buying what I absolutely adore not what is seasonly trendy ensures less waste and feeling the need to constantly make changes. Saying that it is energically emperitve that we make some changes on a regular basis this is when swaps and trips back to the thrift stores are ever important.

It’s not much but it’s something (and my tired mama brain tells me I’ve missed some things, but I will be back to expand and share links and tips).

There are so many people doing so so much more, which gives us all something to aspire to. And yet if we all did this- as the bare minimum...

When deciding to bring another human into the world I really didn’t want to add to the footprint on the planet, for this reason I practised Elimination Communication. This greatly reduced the amount of (biodegradable and cloth) nappies we used. I won’t brag about how early we were done with nappies day and night and instead as I work on this page, will add links for your own use and for you to share with others.
